The 10 yard dumpster is Shield Dumpster Rental Spartanburg's smallest roll-off, and it's the right call for more jobs than people expect. If you're clearing out a single bedroom, tackling a small bathroom tear-out, or hauling brush and limbs from a backyard off SC-9 near Boiling Springs, a 10 yarder usually handles the whole job in one trip without you paying for space you won't use.

It's also the easiest size to place on a tight lot. Spartanburg's older mill-village streets — Drayton, Whitney, Beaumont, Saxon, Arcadia and Fairforest — were laid out for narrow driveways and close-set bungalows, and this compact container tucks in without blocking the whole yard. We can set it on concrete, gravel or a protected section of grass, and our driver will walk the drop spot with you before it comes off the truck.

Not sure a 10 yard container is big enough for your project? Call us at (864) 754-6073 and we'll size it over the phone, or compare it against our other roll-off sizes first.

Capacity in real terms

How much actually fits

What you're loadingHow it fits in a 10 yard dumpster
One bedroom's furniture and boxesFills roughly half the container, leaving room to spare
Small bathroom gut (vanity, toilet, tile, drywall)Typically fills a 10 yarder right up to the fill line
A single-car garage cleanoutMatches the 2–3 pickup-truck-load capacity of this size
Brush, limbs and clippings from a backyard cleanupLoose yard debris is bulky but light, so volume fills up before weight is a concern

What Fits in a 10 Yard Dumpster

At 12 ft long, 8 ft wide and 3.5 ft deep, a 10 yard container holds about 2–3 pickup-truck loads and comes with 1–2 tons of disposal weight built into the flat rate. The low side height makes it easy to toss items over the rail by hand, which matters for a job you're doing yourself on a Saturday.

In practice, this size clears a single bedroom or home office down to the studs, empties a one-car garage, or hauls a small bathroom's old vanity, tub surround, tile and drywall in one go. It also works well for a modest amount of yard debris — a season's worth of limbs and clippings from a lot near Duncan Park or Hatcher Garden fills it by volume long before it comes close to the weight limit.

Where it runs out of room is anything spanning more than one or two rooms, a full roof tear-off, or a renovation generating mixed construction debris. If you're not sure which side of that line your project falls on, call (864) 754-6073 and describe what you're clearing — we'd rather put you in the right size the first time than have you order a second container.

Placement and Access: What a 10 Yard Delivery Needs

This is the easiest roll-off we deliver to place. Our truck needs roughly 60 ft of straight clearance to back in and set the container down, plus about 14 ft of overhead room for the cables that lift it off the truck bed. A standard driveway, gravel pad, or a flat section of yard all work — we'll lay boards down first if we're setting it on grass or asphalt in the summer heat.

Everything has to stay below the top rim once it's loaded; that's a safety requirement for hauling it back out, not just a courtesy. If your driveway is short or shared, this compact size is often the only one that fits comfortably, which is one more reason it's popular in Spartanburg's older neighborhoods.

No permit is required for a container placed entirely on private property. If there's genuinely no room and it has to sit at the curb or on a public street, check with the City of Spartanburg about a temporary placement permit before we deliver — our FAQ page covers the basics, and we're happy to talk through placement when you call to book.

10 Yard vs. 15 Yard: How to Tell Which One You Need

The jump from a 10 to a 15 yard dumpster adds about 4 ft of length and half a foot of depth — enough to add 2 more pickup-truck loads of capacity and another ton of included weight. If your project is contained to one room or a single small space, the 10 yard almost always wins on both fit and value. If you're clearing two or more rooms, a garage plus a shed, or doing a bathroom remodel with old flooring on top of the fixtures, size up to the 15 yard dumpster instead.

A useful rule of thumb: picture the job as pickup-truck loads. If you can imagine hauling it away in two or three loaded truck beds, the 10 yard fits. If you're closer to four or five, go up a size rather than risk overfilling — we can't safely transport a container loaded above the rim.

Best 10 Yard Projects Around Spartanburg

This size shows up most often on small residential jobs. Homeowners in Spartanburg's mill-village neighborhoods use it for attic and basement decluttering ahead of a move, or for clearing out a single room in one of the area's older bungalows. It's also a good match for the newer, smaller lots off SC-9 and SC-296 heading toward Boiling Springs and Moore, where driveway space is at a premium but the cleanout itself is modest — think a spare bedroom, a home office, or a kid's room after they've moved out.

On the outdoor side, it's a strong fit for spring or fall yard cleanup: clearing storm-damaged limbs after an ice storm, tearing out an old small deck or patio, or bagging up leaves and clippings ahead of a landscaping refresh. Renters and small landlords also lean on the 10 yard for turnover cleanouts between tenants when the unit isn't full of furniture.

If your project touches our junk removal or yard waste removal services, this is usually the size we'll recommend first — see the full Spartanburg service area we cover for delivery.

What You Can (and Can't) Put in a 10 Yard Dumpster

Wood, drywall, tile, flooring, furniture, household clutter, yard clippings and branches, roofing shingles and small appliances are all fine to load. Because this is our smallest container, it's a common choice for a single-category load — all yard debris, or all bathroom-remodel debris — which also keeps disposal simple.

Paint, solvents, oils, tires, batteries, hazardous chemicals, propane tanks or gas cylinders, and medical waste can't go in any size dumpster, ours included — those need a dedicated hazardous-waste drop-off. The South Carolina Department of Environmental Services maintains guidance on where to take those materials.

10 Yard Dumpster — frequently asked questions

How much can a 10 yard dumpster actually hold?

A 10 yard roll-off measures about 12 ft long, 8 ft wide and 3.5 ft deep, which works out to roughly 2–3 pickup-truck loads and 1–2 tons of included weight. That's usually enough for a single-room cleanout, a small bathroom tear-out, a garage declutter, or a modest yard debris haul without needing to upgrade to a larger container.

Will a 10 yard dumpster fit on my driveway?

Yes — it's our most compact roll-off and the easiest size to place in Spartanburg's mill-village neighborhoods with narrow driveways, as well as newer subdivisions off SC-9 and SC-296. We need roughly 60 ft of straight clearance for the delivery truck and a firm, level surface like a driveway, gravel pad or protected section of yard.

Do I need a permit for a 10 yard dumpster in Spartanburg?

No permit is needed if the container sits entirely on your own private property, such as a driveway or yard. If there's no room and it has to sit on a public street, a temporary placement permit may be required — check with the City of Spartanburg or your county before delivery, and we're happy to help you sort out placement when you call.

What if I fill the 10 yard dumpster before my project is done?

Call us at (864) 754-6073 and we'll talk through your options — that can mean scheduling a swap-out for an empty container or upgrading you to a 15 or 20 yard for the rest of the job. It's common on cleanouts that turn up more than expected, so don't hesitate to reach out mid-rental.

How long can I keep a 10 yard dumpster?

Our standard rental period is 7 days, which comfortably covers most single-room cleanouts, small remodels and yard cleanups. If your project runs long, extensions are available — just call (864) 754-6073 before the rental period ends so we can keep the container on-site for you without a gap.
